Pre-Conference Workshop: Practical Approaches to Branch-End Weight Reduction Pruning

Join ISA Board Certified Master Arborist Chris Winters and ISA Certified Arborist Benjamin Moore of Scenic City Arborists for an in-depth discussion and understanding of their experience and applications with branch end-weight reduction pruning on mature canopies in their effort to preserve our urban trees for future generations.

This program will include a comprehensive classroom portion and live demonstration. 

The classroom session will detail the scientific applications and reasoning behind branch end weight reduction pruning, including coverage of:

• decision making for health and aesthetics,
• branch attachments,
• the physics of lever arms, and
• pruning cut diameters.

In addition, Ben and Chris will perform a live pruning demonstration on-site to talk through their methodologies. Applicable skills will include:

• climbing techniques for reaching branch ends,
• ergonomics, and
• decision making in the moment.
